Vaka Pasifika is a charitable Trust set up with the mission and vision to “empower Pacific Island People to take charge of their lives and those of their family(s) to enjoy and participate in developing New Zealand Society” (Deed of Trust). 

Although the development of the trust came from identified needs in the area of social services, the broad scope of its objectives is a reflection of the intertwined complexity of the issues including justice, education, heath, housing and social challenges that families face.

 Vaka Pasifika was registered in 2007 and later obtained CYFS approval (sec.403) in early 2009. 

 A new organization that:

  • Consolidates social services for Pacific Peoples in New Zealand
  • Combines existing pacific providers to pool together resources and lobbying strength
  • Works together with affiliated, member and subcontracted providers for mutual sustainability and benefit
  • Provides social services direct to Pacific populations
  • Provides support services to subcontracted and member providers
  • Provides a robust infrastructure for governance, management, compliance and quality assurance
  • Focuses on the wider social challenges facing Pacific Island peoples 

 

Aim:

Empowering Pacific Island people to take charge of their lives and those of their family(s) to enjoy and participate in developing New Zealand Society.

 

Vision:

To deliver social services for Pacific Island peoples and bring together social work providers to service Pacific Island people and better coordinate delivery and outcome(s).
